MEF: The industry focal point for Carrier Ethernet:

Ethernet represents the most important evolutionary step in service provider networking over this next decade. Ethernet technology is extensively being deployed for the delivery of high speed business connectivity services and increasingly, as infrastructure for residential triple-play rollouts. The MEF is a non-profit organization with over 145 active members spanning the globe, representing all Carrier Ethernet industry stakeholder groups. The MEF mission is to accelerate worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet filling a void not currently addressed by existing standards bodies for defining and marketing Carrier-class Ethernet technologies and services.

Eight good reasons to join the MEF:
  1. Take an active role in standardizing and deploying wide-area Ethernet networking.
  2. Access member-only tools and documents for marketing Carrier Ethernet including the Global Services Directory
  3. Better position your Carrier Ethernet products or services, versus non-MEF aligned competitors.
  4. Be among the first to know new Carrier Ethernet market directions and industry/technology trends.
  5. Participate in standardization of MEF service attributes to support Ethernet SLAs.
  6. Help drive equipment and service certification influencing these programs
  7. Network with your partners, suppliers, customers and competitors in an informal, non-competitive environment
  8. Enhance your PR visibility by joining MEF-sponsored activities.

How does the MEF operate?

MEF activities are conducted by two committees: Technical and Marketing. Member participants can choose to participate in one or both committees. Many subcommittees and work groups conduct specific streams of activities (e.g. service specifications, OAMP). Membership active participation is encouraged but voluntary. MEF members have the opportunity to participate via conference calls and MEF quarterly meetings. Members can become involved and lead in specific areas that are key to their own business' core competency.
